Royal Enfield announces ‘Style Your Own’ design competition winners
Two lucky students will make their dreams come true.
Attracting young pilots has been a priority for OEMs for the past decade – a tricky task, of course. To engage young people, brands have tried everything from design competitions to trade programs. When Royal Enfield wanted to find a new trendy approach to its Twin 650 range, it launched the ‘Style Your Own’ design competition. After eight months and more than 180 submissions, the brand has just announced the winners of the competition.
Launched in August 2020, the ‘Style Your Own’ competition put the Royal Enfield Continental GT 650 and Interceptor 650 in the hands of students from the UK, France, Spain, Italy and Europe. ‘Germany. The brief called for designs that would excite young and new riders while appealing to seasoned riders. Competitors also had to take into account the rich history of Royal Enfield for the final design.
After careful consideration, 12 designers (six for each model) were selected as finalists. Inspirational charts detailing the creative process and the final design were then sent to Royal Enfield’s European panel of judges. With all the votes counted Luke Robbins from Coventry University (UK) took top honors for the Continental GT 650 class while Alessio Ramundo from Nuova Accademia di Belle Arti (Italy) won the Interceptor 650 category.
“We are thrilled with the levels of creativity and design originality shown by so many students across the EU in our inaugural ‘Style Your Own: Student Design Competition’” said Mark Wells, Head of Strategy world of Royal Enfield products and industrial design.
As Robbins’ concept features a modern gradient paint scheme and Ramundo opts for a classic livery, the two students will work with the UK-based Royal Enfield product design team to fully realize the designs.
“Working collaboratively is essential to the way we operate at Royal Enfield, so we are so excited to be able to give the two winning students an incredible opportunity to work alongside the Royal Enfield team as we bring their designs to life. , from blank canvas to the final custom versions, ”concluded Wells.
