Pamplin Media Group – What do you like about YOUR library?
Throughout the pandemic, the library team worked tirelessly to create relevant programs and community outreach
From April 4-10, 2021, it was National Library Week and the theme was Welcome to Your Library! The programming team has planned various activities to celebrate libraries and reading.
One of the best things to do was get all the right marks on why the people of Jefferson County love their library.
The JCLD advertising in the Pioneer was a great way for us to get feedback. The notes received were shared with our staff; it was uplifting to hear the love and support that so many of you shared with us. Some of the responses from library users are shared here.

Change times / change colors
If you’ve recently dropped off books in our book store, you’ve noticed the different paint samples on the back wall. The library’s next project is to repaint the building and refresh the exterior landscaping. We ask for feedback to help you select colors. Colors are numbered, and you can vote by honking to identify your choice. It’s great fun to hear the car horns honking for their favorite and then someone will say, “There is a vote for number X”. Thanks to everyone who provided feedback. Stay tuned for the outcome.
The library team has stepped up its creative thinking and we are always open to new events and program ideas. Throughout the year, the team has worked tirelessly to create relevant programs and community outreach, even though it is hampered by COVID restrictions. When I arrived here almost two years ago, I had a clear vision for this library: a welcoming community center and an information center with a robust website. I see us moving forward to realize this vision every day.
Speaking on behalf of the staff and the board, thank you for your kind words about the library and for the love and support we feel from this community. The library is not about us – it is about the community we serve. Your feedback helps us stay relevant.
You rely on us to stay informed and we rely on you to fund our efforts. Good local journalism takes time and money. Please support us to protect the future of community journalism.
