Ebbsfleet Health and Wellness Center
The winning team will develop plans for a new ‘exceptional, inclusive and world-class dementia-friendly BREEAM building’ in the emerging town of Ebbsfleet Garden City in North Kent, where 15,000 new homes and 30,000 new jobs should be created by 2035.
The new health center will include a mix of clinical and wellness facilities as well as new intergenerational homes, community spaces and landscaping. The latest contest comes three years after a team featuring JTP won a contest organized by EDC to find ideas to promote healthy living in the new city.
According to the brief: “ We aspire to provide a world-class building, exceptional BREEAM, inclusive, dementia-friendly, of civic scale and significance in a neighborhood of intergenerational housing and internal living spaces and external municipal and shared partners who will support a new model. health care to respond to the new and reach out to existing communities.
“ EDC would like to task an architecture-led team or consortia to include knowledge in innovative urban and landscape design, in order to work alongside the EDC project manager to advance the proposed health and wellness cluster. – including the intergenerational housing component – at stage 2 of the RIBA. will be a costed feasibility study including the final concept design. This objective should be achieved through a methodology of co-production and code design ”.
Ebbsfleet Garden City is being built on the site of a former quarry and other nearby brownfield sites next to the M2 motorway and Ebbsfleet International station. Up to 15,000 new homes and 30,000 jobs are planned on the site.
EDC was established by the government in 2015 to accelerate the delivery of a large-scale residential neighborhood with commercial, educational, research and recreation uses. It should include seven parks and 192 ha of blue and green infrastructure.
In September 2020, RCKa and AOC won an EDC competition to provide “community buildings for local people with local people”. The study will exploit “collaborative co-design” to identify the potential for integrating new arts, heritage and creative industry facilities into the development neighborhoods of Whitecliffe and Northfleet Riverside.
Last summer, a team comprising Weston Williamson + Partners, Allies and Morrison and German practice Jott Architekten won a competition for the master plan for Ebbsfleet Central – one of five planned neighborhoods for the emerging colony, which will be located between the existing communities of Northfleet, Swanscombe and Greenhithe.
The other neighborhoods are Northfleet Riverside, Eastern Quarry and Ebbsfleet Garden and Swanscombe Peninsula. Maccreanor Lavington and AECOM were selected to create a general master plan for the 1,026 ha colony five years ago.
Lee Evans Partnership won the planning for a new pub and hotel in the Castle Hill area of the Ebbsfleet Garden City development in December 2019 and the project is slated for completion in 2021.
Offers for the Ebbsfleet Health and Wellbeing Hub contract will be evaluated 60% on quality and 40% on price. The deadline for submitting applications is June 8.
