Apple’s Worst Design Crime is Here to Stay
Of everything Apple announced at this week’s product launch event, the addition of six new Magic Mouse colors (designed to match the gorgeous new iMacs) wasn’t really news. But we couldn’t help but notice that the device’s charging port is again in one place – which means Apple continues, incredibly, to stick with one of its most unpopular designs.
The Magic Mouse 2 is a quintessentially stylish Apple device, and even made it to our best list of mice for Macs. It’s a solid option – until you need to charge it up. In probably Apple’s most mind-boggling design decision, it placed the Lightning port on the bottom of the mouse, rendering it completely unusable while charging. Could apple really Haven’t you moved the loading port and added the new colors this year?

Many have speculated on what led to the bizarre decision to put the port under the mouse. “It seems they wanted to make sure the aesthetic of the design weren’t compromised,” suggests one Reddit user, while another wonders if Apple has made the “least effort possible” by simply replacing Magic Mouse 1 battery compartment through a port. “I suspect they wanted to sell a designated charging station for these, but abandoned it at some point,” adds another user.
Whatever the reason, this is one of the most infuriating design quirks of all time – and as all Magic Mouse users will attest, this thing always manages to run out of battery. fair as you move forward with an extremely important and urgent task.
